Weekly
sewing Classes

What do they learn?

Starting with basic sewing machine use, students will learn new techniques with each sewing project while continuing to practice techniques already learned.

Students will learn about fabric choices, threading & using a sewing machine, pinning, cutting, hemming, casings, ironing, using a pattern, following instructions and "sew" much more. Plus, as students get more advanced, they will continue their learning to include buttons, button holes, zippers, sleeves,  etc. and eventually can learn to use a commercial pattern.

Students follow the Kids can sew progression as picture. Level 4 ( Advanced) students will begin to use commercial easy to sew patterns. These patterns will generally take the full year to complete. If they finish soon other kit are available for purchase. I do encourage them to get creative with each project and make each item their own!

How do I know my child is ready for sewing lessons?
Good question! Just because they are 7 or 8 doesn't mean they are ready. Each child is different.
Here are a few things to think about before you sign up.

Are they:

- Interested in learning the class material and not just 'going through the motions'

- Able to follow multi-step directions without constant supervision

- Are respectful of other students and the instructor

- Can be patient/non-disruptive while others are receiving instruction.

- Understand that sewing projects are a process of steps that will take time and patience to complete (ie: positive attitude, doesn't rush, produces good work)
